ABOUT THE CHALLENGE

I created the Pure Movement Challenge because the day I was introduced to Crossfit with a phone call from my little brother, the future of my life, and thus my health was changed forever. Some 16 years later I find myself a much leaner, happier, and heck of lot stronger 40 year old than I was in my mid 20’s. I feel like I’m sitting on the fountain of youth and the secret to health and longevity… and I felt the need to tell as many people about it as possible. Crossfit is the reason I devoted my life’s work to helping people move and feel better, and that’s what led me to create Crossfit Williamsville, and then led on to the Pure Movement Challenge.

Here at Crossfit Williamsville, we want to help 500 people in 2019 get fitter with the Pure Movement Challenge. We want to teach people the right way to eat and the right way to move to ensure they learn habits that will last them a lifetime! We created the Pure Movement Challenge to serve two separate but complementary functions.

First we wanted a simple yet comprehensive 6-Week Program that could take anyone, at any level of fitness and help improve them.

That means if you are already a runner, and that is your primary way of getting in shape, we can make you a better runner.

If you are someone who is paying a monthly membership at a large globo gym, and you hardly make time to use it because it has become boring, we can teach how to move your body efficiently and effectively and make sure that you are challenged and stimulated so you never get bored.

If you are someone who has never exercised and doesn’t believe you are ready for Crossfit, well then you are the 2nd reason we created this program.

By the end of the 6 Weeks you will be able to step right into our Crossfit Classes, and feel comfortable with all of the movements and understand how to do them safely, without fear of injuring yourself.

WHAT YOU GET

  • 18 Classes to teach you how to move well and reconnect with your inner athlete.
  • Personal Instruction on Meal Planning and simple Dietary Guidelines to follow
  • 42 Done-For-You Recipes to follow for the 6 weeks so you never have to ask yourself “What am I going to make tonight?”
  • Personal Accountability coach so it feels like you have a motivational speaker waking you up every morning to get your behind in the gym
  • 3 Cutting Edge Workouts PER WEEK At Crossfit Williamsville
  • World Class Online Support Group with 24hr accountability

SUCCESS STORIES

There’s no other way to put it, CrossFit killed me. But not in the way you may think.

It wasn’t ever an ambition of mine to become fit let alone healthy. I was fortunate to not have any major health issues despite a family history of diabetes, stroke and heart disease. Then, we received word that my mom had colorectal cancer. Through her whole fight we talked and from these conversations birthed the desire to be better, healthier and just lose weight. I ended up quitting smoking, started eating less junk and used an elliptical at a local gym to watch The Walking Dead. Then, her condition became terminal.

A few months after she passed, I was lost and ready to slip back into bad habits. It was only after some friends had posted similar then-and-now pics from their time at CrossFit Akron did I start to become curious. The time came and I nervously entered CrossFit Williamsville on a Saturday morning for an intro class (nearly 6 years ago now). At 270 lbs, I was the biggest guy there but somehow I blocked it out. I listened to Rob’s every word and made a commitment to both myself and to my mom to give my best efforts toward a healthy lifestyle. After a few weeks, I was hooked (and sooo sore). But since that day, it has been an endless pursuit of always improving. Setting goals and putting in the work today to be better tomorrow.

So CrossFit did kill me – the 300 lb, unhealthy, uncoordinated, shut-in that was me. But, here I stand, reborn from the ashes a much-improved version of my former self and I still maintain that if it wasn’t for each an every one of you encouraging and lifting me up along the way, I’d have quit a long time ago. So, thank you everyone past and present. Here’s to another 6 years of kicking ass and crushing WODs together!

This was a few years before my CrossFit journey but the size was about the same. I don’t know the words to express how my life has changed with the coaching and pushing of Robert Vest II. Not only do you get your life back, you gain a community of people who become your family.

Of course I’m eating a bag of chips in my “before” photo. Gross. I’ve been up and down since then but I’m obviously happy with where I’ve landed. Endless amounts of “thank yous” to Robert and the rest of the crew! Excited for what lies ahead and tapping into whatever potential is hidden within me.

Since starting my journey at CrossFit Williamsville on December 3rd, 2012 – you could say that my body has gone through drastic changes. I started out my journey uncoordinated and awkward, unable to even crawl the length of the box without pain from scoliosis along my spine. I had never been an athlete. I had never even been inside a globo gym. I had absolutely no idea what it meant to be fit. At the time I walked into the doors of CFW, I had given birth to my third baby 15 months prior. At that point in my life, I had very little confidence and if in conversation with you, I could sooner tell you the color of your shoes than the color of your eyes. Two years later (as seen in the second pic from left), I was down 47 pounds and countless pant sizes- but what was most notable was the fact that not only were my shoulders back and my eyes straight ahead but that I also had enough confidence to take and pass the CrossFit Level 1 course and had begun to lead Crossfit classes. I became a ‘playground hero’ for my kiddos, finally able to scale the monkey bars- a skill I couldn’t even do as a young child. I was a better wife and a kick ass mama.

Three years into my journey, I found myself pregnant with my fourth (and final, lol) baby. I was able to workout and coach right up until delivery. I watched my body transform and shock me yet again with what it could do. After Ava’s birth, my workouts not only helped me reclaim my body but also served as a tool to help me battle postpartum depression. My body didn’t bounce back as quickly as I would’ve liked it to, in fact it was at a snails pace. Through this leg of my journey, I learned how to ‘see the good’- in the ever so small things.

Then in July 2018, I unexpectedly lost my job and in September 2018, my son was diagnosed with brain cancer. My CFW family and CrossFit community rallied around me and my family, lifting us up so high when we felt unable to stand. We were surrounded in love and in prayer. Our burden didn’t feel so heavy, because the community helped us carry it. I continued to use my workouts as an outlet, my chosen family continued to check in, and in the midst of it all, I ventured out to take the CrossFit Level 2 course and passed the exam. To feel a source of strength in the midst of the storm and find an outlet— my heart has never been so grateful.

At our box, we use the words “becoming bulletproof,” A LOT. As one of the founding members of this place and being blessed enough to have been witness to it’s own transformation over the last 6+ years, those words couldn’t ring more true. The tools to BECOMING BULLETPROOF is what we teach- in the form of fitness, yes. But it is through that consistent education at the box, showing us what we can do, how hard we can push, when we hear that “3, 2, 1…” bell sound before each wod that translates to how we respond when life actually rings our bell.

So yes. I’ve been transformed. Physically oh yes- from fluffy to fit to pregnant and back again. But this place has been about so. much. more. The internal transformations have been more poignant. The people in this community have become some of my best friends- a chosen family.

So to go back to the definition of transformation: the transformative journey to ‘becoming bulletproof’ has certainly been dramatic for me. Six years ago, I stood in this place – only thinking about shedding a few pounds – only to learn the *limitless potential* of the power that making that choice would have on my life. I will never be able to express my gratitude enough.
